Sonny Jones Profile Photo William Allen “Sonny” Jones, Jr., 68, died following a sudden illness at North Mississippi Medical Center on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Sonny was born in Tupelo on April 29, 1956, to William “Buddy” Allen Jones, Sr. and Ferne Irene Gilstrap Jones. Following graduation from Tupelo High School in 1974, Sonny began his career at Arvin Industries in 1975. In 1986, he joined the T&L Specialty Co. and remained faithful and committed throughout his life. Sonny believed there “ain’t nothing like a boot on the ground and shaking a man’s hand.” Sonny was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed spending his time hunting or fishing. Spending time at his cabin in Mills Creek on Pickwick Lake with his friends was one of his favorite pastimes. Sonny loved his family.

Sonny is survived by his sisters, Sandy Atkinson and her husband, Terry, and Debby Jones both of Tupelo; one brother, Terry Jones and his wife, Belinda, of Iuka; two nephews, Zack Jones of Tupelo, and Will Atkinson of Nashville; special friend, Anita Stephens of Shannon; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Ferne Jones.

Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Tupelo Memorial Park with Jeff Barnes speaking. Family will also accept friends following the graveside service Saturday. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Allen Ezell, Danny Michael, Mike Amicone, Tim Overton, Jason Underwood, and Joey Steele. Honorary pallbearer will be Doug Ezell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Mississippi Medical Center, Hospice Patient Assistance Fund.
