Willia Lee Johnson Rush, born Sept. 25, 1925, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at Walker Rehabilitation Center in Carbon Hill, Alabama.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 3, 2023, from 2 until 2:30 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2:30 pm. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Fayette County. Lynel Early will officiate.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard W. Rush; parents, Shannon and Cassie Lee Aldridge Johnson; and a sister shortly after birth in 1923.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Lee Rush Morrison of Haleyville, Alabama; son, Larry William Rush (Brenda Webster) of Alabaster, Alabama.; grandchildren, William Shannon Rush (Sarah Zieber) of Hudson, Ohio, Holly Kathryn Rush of Montevallo, Alabama, and Matthew Austin Rush (Rachel Anderson) of Shelby, Alabama; and great-grandchildren, Rachel Rush, Jacob Torres, Joshua Torres, Emily Torres, Cassie Torres, Sylvie Torres, Zachary Nelson, Scout Nelson, August Rush, Henry Rush and Austin Rush.

Willia was a lifelong resident of the Pleasant Hill Community in Northeast Fayette County. As a young child, she attended Johnson School House, a one-room school, and later graduated from Hubbertville High School in 1943. She was instrumental in getting phone service to the community in the early 60s. Along with other Aldridge relatives, she contributed to rebuilding Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church and maintaining the Aldridge family cemetery adjacent to the church. She enjoyed family, friends, scared harp, Fa So Lo, and singing.
