Willard Ray South, 84, of Florence, passed away February 26, 2016 at E.C.M. Hospital. He was a member of Hendrix Chapel Church of Christ, and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict with the 40th Infantry Division. Mr. South was a founding member of the Florence Wagon Club and was a master wagon wright and craftsman, having built and restored hundreds of wagons.
Visitation will be today, Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 12-2:30 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Wayne Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. South was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary Ann South; brothers, William, John, and Thomas South; and sisters, Letha Canales, and Lorene Balentine.
He is survived by his sons, Jerry Ray South and wife Desiree, and Judge Ricky Van South; daughter, Carrie Lynn South; and special pets (Beagles), Luke, Jake, and Millie; sisters, Nina Ruth Wise, and Sara Grace Beshirs; grandchildren, Dr. Clinton Ray South (Toni), Christina South Moorer (Tyler), Sarah Katherine South, and Katy South; and great-grandchild, Carter Davis Moorer.
Active pallbearers will include: Clint South, Scotty South, Tyler Moorer, Tony Canales, David Beshirs, Kevin Wise, Gary Faires, and Jeb Balentine.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Terry Balentine, Thomas Box, Billy Counce, Herbie Harrison, Bob McAnally, W.J. Hall, Lendon Brown, and Dwight Brown.
