Wilkins Eddie Underwood, age 85 of Winchester, passed away on November 13, 2023, peacefully at Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Eddie was born on September 13, 1938, in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Wilkins Eddie and Mary (Depew) Underwood Sr. Eddie retired from TVA, where he began as a drafter and retired as a communications Design Engineer. Eddie was a dedicated family man, whose hobbies included gardening, sports, and working puzzles. He loved good food, and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends while enjoying a good meal. Eddie’s true passion in life was spending time with family and friends. He loved watching UT football, basketball (mens and womens), baseball, and UNC Tarheel basketball. Everyone who knew Eddie, whether it was for a few days or several years, considered him a very special friend. He was of Methodist faith and served his church through the years as a youth counselor, member of various committees, and as a church league basketball and softball team’s coach. Eddie will be remembered as a kind and generous soul and as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Ethel, of sixty-two years. He is survived by his sons, Chuck Underwood of Hixson, and Steve (Launa) Underwood of Winchester Springs; grandson, Kyle Underwood of Hixson; several nieces and nephews; his loving dog and faithful friend, Penny; and his grand dogs, Sadie, Suzie, and Trooper. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens, where he will be laid beside his beloved wife on what would have been their sixty-third wedding anniversary.
