Coach Wiley Glynn Stowe, 82 of Gurley, AL claimed the ultimate victory on June 10, 2024, when he passed away peacefully and joined our Lord in heaven.
Glynn Stowe was born on April 9, 1942, to Wallace Reed Stowe and Ruby Pearl (Wade) Stowe in Roanoke, AL. He grew up in Phenix City, AL, was an Eagle Scout, and graduated from Central High School, where he lettered in football, track, and wrestling. During his senior year, he was chosen as an Alabama All-State Football Player. He played football and wrestled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) and earned his degree in secondary education.
Stowe was a dedicated football and wrestling coach who helped shape many individuals into determined athletes and successful men. He led seven teams to earn State Championships. Coach Stowe is a member of the Huntsville- Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame and National Wrestling Association Hall of Fame.
Stowe enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, training dogs, and was an active member of Gurley Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Lucy Elaine Stowe, his mother, and his father. He leaves behind his beloved and dedicated wife of nearly 55 years Mary Louise (Bell) Stowe; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger Henshaw (Rob Henshaw) and Katy Stowe (Dee Raney); four grandchildren, Wiley Henshaw, Turner Henshaw, Ty Raney, and Emily Raney; and two sisters. Patsy Grimes and Candise Stowe.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 5 pm to 7pm at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 10 am in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Al Geise of the Gurley Methodist Church officiating. Immediately after the service, the burial will occur at the Gurley Cemetery in Gurley, AL with Pastor Byron McGlathery of the St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America officiating.
