Wilda Mae Smith Maness – Obituary

Wilda Mae Smith Maness age 88 passed away Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter in Waterford, Mississippi.

She was born January 23, 1928 in Chester County, the daughter of the late Jerry Clyde and Mary Lessie Mullins Smith. She attended schools in Chester County, the Glendale community, and graduated from Chester County High School. She worked as a young lady at Peoples Cleaners before moving to Memphis.

She married F. Paul Smith of Finger. They made their home in Memphis from 1951 until 1987 when they moved back to Henderson. Mr. Smith died in 1994. She returned to Memphis in 1995 to be near her children. She married David Randolph Maness in 2002. They made their home in Wetumpka, AL. Mr. Maness precedes in death.

Mrs. Maness is survived by a son, Tommy Allen Smith and wife Dora of Bartlett and a daughter, Phyllis Weaver Huffman and husband J. D. of Waterford, four grandchildren; Meredith Austin, Webb Smith, Brandi Wollney and Hunter Smith; ten great grandchildren, a brother, Larry ‘Buddy’ Smith of Henderson and two sisters, Loraine Butler and Stella Malone.

She was preceded in death by three sisters; Bobbie Weaver, Jane McDonald, and Thelma Cherry and a brother, Jerry Paul Smith.

Funeral services will be 2:00 Sunday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Meredith Austin and Webb Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetlips Cemetery with Chris Warren officiating.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 12 noon Sunday.
