Wilburn Clay Gargis – Obituary

Wilburn Clay Gargis, 84 of Lexington, Ala., passed away June 2, 2013 after an extended illness. Mr. Gargis was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War and was retired fro TVA after 40 years of service. Mr. Gargis was also the owner of Gargis Plumbing and a member of Local #765.

Survivors include, his wife, Jean Gargis; son, Timothy Gargis; step-son, Danny Thigpen (Glenda); daughter, Suzette Hall; step-daughters, Carolyn Wisdom (Rayburn) and Patricia Hughes; brothers, Hillman Gargis and Ray Gargis; sisters, Kay Bryant and Jeanette Isbell; grandchildren, Dora Webb and Keely Baxley; step-grandchildren, Jane Nicole Wisdom, Rayburn Wisdom II (Sonya), Sabrina Seal (Chris) and Ashley Nichols (Matt).

Mr. Gargis was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Myrtle Briley Gargis; son Daniel Gargis; and step son-in-law Nathan Hughes.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from Noon-2 p.m. at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Bro. Danny Pettus and Bro. Rodney Livingston officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rayburn Wisdom Sr., Rayburn Wisdom II, Matthew Nichols, Mickey Smith, Gregory Gargis and James McGee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Horace McGee, Dr. W.R. Welborn, Ernest Lawson and James D. Glover.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the Glenwood Convalescent Center nurses and staff for their kindness during Mr. Gargis’ illness.
