TUSCUMBIA – Hildred Burwell of Harvest was late for his 9- o’clock court hearing at the Colbert County Courthouse on Wednesday. According to Sheriff Ronnie May, the man was to appear on a violation of a protection from abuse order. He was late.
He did show up about an hour later. According to Sheriff May, Burdwell had the usual stack of papers that one would expect somebody to be carrying into court. It is just that, inside the stack of papers, Deputies say they found a loaded nine millimeter autoloader. It sounded the alarm at the metal detector that everybody has to pass through in order to gain access to the courtrooms.
He was charged with possession of a firearm in a prohibited area and carrying a firearm without a permit.
His protection from abuse hearing was rescheduled for a later date.
Burwell made bond and has been released from Colbert County Jail.
