DECATUR-One the country’s leading catfish tournament event is returning to the River City this weekend bringing with it some of the top catfish anglers in the country. Mississippi River Monsters Bama Blues got underway January 4, 2023, on Wheeler Lake with several activities held until the final tournament day on the 7th.
Each day of the Mississippi River Monsters Bama Blues event offers anglers a host of activities. Tomorrow and Jan. 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., anglers that are pre-fishing for the event compete for the biggest fish and a chance to win cash and prizes where at least $1K per day is guaranteed.
Registration for the tournament will take place on Thursday afternoon from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ingalls Harbor Pavilion. The Monster Big Bash event follows at 6:00 p.m. with activities, cash bar and presentation of prizes from pre-fishing activities.
Mississippi River Monsters Bama Blues tournament hours on Wheeler Lake on Saturday, Jan. 7 are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Teams may launch from Ingalls Harbor at 6 a.m. tournament morning and must be back and checked in at the weigh-in location no later than 5:00 p.m. Weigh-in will begin and take place at Ingalls Harbor at 4:30 p.m. This year’s weigh-in will be broadcasted live on Facebook. Winners will be announced and presented with prizes and awards from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The catch and release tournament is capped at 150, three-person teams, paying 15 places, including a $15K first place cash prize, big fish, top lady and top youth.
