COLBERT COUNTY-Summer is in full swing and folks are out and about. Here are just a few fun events to help make your summer in The Shoals fun:
July 5-8 & 11-14, 2022 – Summer Art Camp, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia. Camps are divided into two groups: Junior Artists Camp is for Grades 3-6 (July 11-14), and Advanced Artists Camp is for Grades 7-12 (July 5-8). Seating is very limited and registration is required. July 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 2002 – SUMMERSTOCK: The Drowsy Chaperone, Ritz Theatre, 111 W 3rd St, Sheffield. The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one showstopping song and dance number after another. Hailed by New York Magazine as “The Perfect Broadway Musical,” The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre. July 14-16, 2022 – 26th Annual “Saddle Up for St. Jude” Trail Ride, Gardiner Farm, 1 Underwood Road, Tuscumbia. Featuring non-stop, onstage concerts, a live auction on Saturday, and trail rides all weekend, this is an event not to miss! Now in its 26th year, this is the largest Saddle Up event in the nation. All money raised benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Kicking off on Thursday night this year with Drive (6pm), Cowboy Church Band (7:30pm) & Shenandoah (8:30pm). Friday night music: Amanda Brewer (6pm), April Michelle (7pm) & Darryl Worley (8:30pm). Saturday music: Josh Brannon Band (11am), Kerry Gilbert Band (1pm), Josh Brannon Band (2:15pm). Live Auction is at 3pm. Saturday night Headliner: Roots & Boots Tour featuring Aaron Tippin & Sammy Kershaw (8pm). Donations for admission and auction benefit St. Jude Research Hospital. July 21, 2022 – Muscle Shoals Music: Songwriters in the Round, Champy’s, 120 E 2nd St, Muscle Shoals. Colbert County Tourism will sponsor a monthly music event each third Thursday of 2022. Local songwriter and Wishbone Studio owner Billy Lawson will host and emcee the show each month. He will be accompanied by an array of songwriters, both well established and up-and-coming talent (TBA). Come hear the music and stories from the original artists. July 22-31, 2022 – 41st Annual W.C. Handy Music Festival, Various locations in Colbert and Lauderdale Counties. The W.C. Handy Festival is a weeklong celebration of the musical heritage of northwest Alabama, honoring Florence native W.C. July 23, 2022 – RITZ Gospel Showcase, Ritz Theatre, 111 W 3rd St, Sheffield. Kick off Handy Week at the Ritz! Enjoy an inspirational concert of gospel music as the TVAA spotlights three Shoals area choirs. There will be an afternoon matinee at 2pm and an evening show at 7pm. July 23 – August 13, 2022 – Artworks – Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia. Our 59th annual member exhibition showcases the work of our talented artists right here in the
Shoals area! Come see a wide range of art from dozens of artist members of the Tennessee Valley Art Association. Member Reception: Saturday, July. Exhibition Hours: Tuesday-Friday 9am-5 pm; Saturday 10am-5pm. Exhibit opening & 50th Birthday Celebration will be Sunday, July 24, @2pm.
July 30, 2022 – Handy Concert @the Ritz: The Justus Brothers featuring Katrina Anderson, Ritz Theatre, 111 W 3rd St, Sheffield. Memphis’ kings of smooth, contemporary jazz will delight as they close out the Handy Festival at the Ritz. Individually, they have played with an outstanding list of bands and musicians. Joining them on stage will be the vocal stylings of the amazing Katrina Anderson, a staple at BB King’s in Memphis. Show will begin at 7pm. July 30, 2022 – “Music at the Mansion,” Belle Mont, 1569 Cook Lane, Tuscumbia. This annual Handy Festival event will bring the Jazz Allstars Trio to Belle Mont Mansion. Concert is 3-5pm. No charge to attend/ donations accepted. Light refreshments will be available. Guests may enjoy a complimentary informal tour of the historic home, built circa 1828. Information: 256-381-5052

August 27, 2022 – Michael Bolton with the Shoals Symphony Orchestra, Norton Auditorium, UNA Campus, Florence. Two-time Grammy award winner Michael Bolton joins the Shoals Symphony Orchestra at UNA to kick off the 40th Anniversary Season!
