TUSCUMBIA-The Colbert County Tourism & Convention Bureau has gathered some information on some events that will be both fun and education in the Muscle Shoals area for May. Also included in this calendar are some upcoming events for June:
May 5,12,19, 2022 – Stage-to-Screen Film Series, Ritz Theatre, 111 W 3rd St, Sheffield. Get ready for the Ritz Theatre’s 2022/23 theatre season with these films adaptations of beloved Broadway musicals! Tickets for each film are $10 each, or you can get a pass for all four films for $30. Doors

May 7, 2022 – Recall LaGrange, LaGrange College Site Park, 1461LaGrange College Rd, Leighton. 34th annual Recall LaGrange will be 10am-4pm. FREE event will feature vendors, arts & crafts demonstrations, wagon rides to historic cemetery, tours of log cabins, musical entertainment. Living history event of a Prohibition Era raid of a still will be at 2pm. Nearby Dawson Distillery will be open for tours 9am-6pm. May 7, 2022 – Day Out at Dawson Distillery, 1022 LaGrange College Rd, Leighton. Come out to Dawson Distillery on beautiful LaGrange Mountain for a tour and tasting of the best moonshine made in the “Heart of Dixie!” They’ll be cooking chicken stew, too. Moonshine will be available for purchase (limit 3 bottles/person) as well as homemade moonshine jams and moonshine fruit jars. Distillery will be open 9am-6pm. May 13, 2022–Pre-Celtic Fest Day, Belle Mont Mansion, 1569 Cook Lane, Tuscumbia. Kick off the weekend with a panel discussion on Celtic migration into the Tennessee Valley will be held at 11:00 and a demonstration of Gordon Setters will be given at 1:00. May 14, 2022 – Belle Mont Celtic Fest, Belle Mont, 1569 Cook Lane, Tuscumbia. The day will include chamber music and discussions of Celtic music held at intervals indoors at the mansion, with performances on the outdoor stage by well-know Celtic music headliners Ed Miller, the Piper Jones Band, and Chambless & Muse. Food vendors and demonstrators will be on site to round out a full day of the music of Scotland and Ireland. Seating will be on the lawn. Bring blankets and chairs. May 14-27, 2022 – Pet Portraits, TVMA, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia. Pets in Paint will feature artists Vivian Moody, Katie Graham, Monica Dahl, and Liza Harrison. In addition to the paintings, there will be pet portrait photographs of pets for adoption. There will also be a pet adoption event sponsored by

May 14-June 25, 2022 – slowly, please: cheoncheonhi hae juseyo, TVMA, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia. This exhibit is an ongoing body of work composed of textile sculptures, collage memorials, and photographic portraits. Through hand-dying and slow-stitching, biographical explorations, concentrated gazing, and listening, the collection features a simple desire to cultivate a greater intimacy with the world. Birmingham artist Tara Stallworth Lee makes photographs, paper, books, and collages. Expansion of human dignity and the significance of the natural world are important themes throughout all of her work. Opening Reception will be Saturday, May 14, 2-4pm. May 15, 2022 – Front Porch Stories & Backyard Tales: From York Bluff to Sheffield, the Standpipe/ Gordon Drive, Sheffield. Bring a chair to Gordon Park beside the Standpipe to learn more about the town of Sheffield. Local historian Jimmy Austin will tell of its earliest beginning – York Bluff. York Bluff was originally laid out by General John Coffee of Florence, with the help of Andrew Jackson. Learn of the town that never was and what led to the later development of the city of Sheffield. Event is free and sponsored by Historic Sheffield Commission and Colbert County Tourism. May 19, 2022 – Muscle Shoals Music: Songwriters in the Round, Champy’s, 120 E 2nd St, Muscle Shoals. Colbert County Tourism will sponsor a monthly music event each third Thursday of 2022. Local songwriter & Wishbone Studio owner Billy Lawson will host & emcee the show each month. Come hear the music & stories from the original artists. This free event will be held 7-9pm each month.

May 19-21, 2022 – 11th Annual Shoals Storytelling Festival, Shoals Theater, 123 N Seminary St,
Florence. This year’s lineup includes Dolores Hydock, Bobby Horton, Donald Davis, Bil Lepp, and
Elizabeth Ellis. It concludes on Saturday night with music by Mac McAnally, Walt Aldridge, and

May 20, 2022 – Shelter Share (Pet Adoption) on the Commons, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia. TVAA is partnering with Bank Independent to hold a special event in conjunction with their 9th annual Shelter Share pet food and supply drive. BI is sponsoring an Adoption Day event outside the museum on the Commons from 9am-4pm. They will pay the fees for any pets adopted at the event. Food trucks will also be set up that day on the commons in front of the museum. Additionally, pet food and supplies may be dropped off at the event, or at any BI location May 2-20. May 21 & 22, 2022 – 35th Annual Arts Alive Festival, Wilson Park, Downtown Florence. Arts Alive is the annual juried Arts Festival sponsored by the Kennedy-Douglass Volunteers. The festival takes place during the third weekend in May in downtown Florence in Wilson Park and throughout the KennedyDouglass Art Center (217 E Tuscaloosa St) adjacent to the park. The festival raises funds for Arts in Education Teacher Grants as well as art classes, workshops and programs at the Kennedy-Douglass Art Center.
