COLBERT COUNTY-May is going to be a busy month in Colbert County.  Music, Cars, Festivals and Fun.  There will be something for everyone and a whole lot more.  Get ready for some fun!

Now through May 17, 2024, at TVMA – The Art of the Print and What the Night Tells the Day, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. Explore 500 years of printmaking from the Curator’s Collection and experience the installation by Douglas Baulos. May 4, 2024 – Recall LaGrange, LaGrange College Site Park, 1491 LaGrange College Road, Leighton, AL. Celebrate the rich history of Alabama’s first college and military institute at the annual Recall LaGrange event. This year marks the 161st anniversary of the tragic burning of LaGrange College. Enjoy a full day of living history presentations, Civil War reenactments, arts and crafts vendors, musical performances, and more. May 4, 2024 – Celebrating Over 100 Years of Serving Tuscumbia, Coldwater Seed and Supply, 108 East 6th Street, Tuscumbia, AL. Join Coldwater Seed and Supply from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM as they celebrate over a century of service in Tuscumbia. The event will feature food and refreshments, knife sharpening, and a special moment to honor the seed store’s previous owners.

May 4, 2024 – Moms & Mimosas, Oak & Ivy Threads, 104 N Main St., Tuscumbia, AL. Join Oak & Ivy Threads to celebrate Mother’s Day! May 4, 2024 – Muscle Shoals Shootout CFR Performance Late Model Special North Alabama Speedway, 12200 Hwy 247, Tuscumbia. Experience the excitement of the “Muscle Shoals Shootout” CFR Performance Late Model Special at North Alabama Speedway on May 4th. All classes will run each event unless otherwise noted. The track is a 3/8 mile dirt track known for its thrilling 3-4 wide racing every Saturday. Grandstand gates open at 4:00 PM. For more information, call 256-577-9097.

May 4-5, 2024 – 2nd Annual Team Roping for RMHCA, 2576 3 Mile Lane, Tuscumbia, AL. Saddle up and join the Austin family, who stayed at the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Alabama, for a fun-filled team roping event. The competition runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. May 11, 2024 – May Second Saturdays, Downtown Tuscumbia, AL. Join the community in downtown Tuscumbia for the first Second Saturday of 2024, held in conjunction with the Shoals Cottagecore Festival. May 11, 2024 – Belle Mont Celtic Festival, Belle Mont Mansion, 1569 Cook Lane, Tuscumbia, AL. Historic Belle Mont Mansion invites you to experience the rousing music of Scotland and Ireland with performances by noted Celtic musicians. The festival will also feature arts, crafts, and life skills demonstrations that showcase Celtic culture. Celtic merchandise and food vendors will be available on site. May 11, 2024 – World Collage Day, Ritz Studio, 111 W. Third St., Sheffield, AL. Celebrate World Collage Day by creating your own memory collage at the Ritz Studio from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Local artist Taryn Chase Jackson and family history documentarian Shannon Milliman will guide participants on capturing and preserving life’s special moments through collage. Materials are provided, but bringing personal items like photographs, letters, and ticket stubs is encouraged. This Mother’s Day weekend activity is perfect for families. Join local artists and crafters at the Shoals Arts and Crafts Swap to trade unwanted or no longer needed craft items. It’s a great opportunity to mingle, learn, and get inspiration from each other. May 16, 2024 – The Devotional Book Workshop with Douglas Baulos, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. Join the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art at 6:00 PM. Douglas Pierre Baulos was born in Springfield, Illinois. In 1990, they received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1993, they received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans. They are an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Their drawings, installations, and photos objects have been exhibited/published both nationally and internationally. Inspired by the iconic 1985 Paramount movie and the classic Hasbro board game, the story unfolds in a remote mansion where six mysterious guests gather for an unusual dinner party filled with murder and blackmail. May 18, 2024 – Marines Helping Marines 4 Man Scramble Tournament, Cypress Lakes Golf & Tennis Club, 1311 East 6th Street, Muscle Shoals, AL, 35661, United States. The third annual Marines Helping Marines 4 Man Scramble Tournament will take place on May 18th, 2024, with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM. This tournament benefits all veterans and the Conley Detachment #1477. Prizes include 1st Flight & 2nd Flight Winner, Closest to the Pin Contests on the Par 3’s, Putting Contest, Longest Drive Contest, and a $500 Hole in One Contest on a selected hole. Featuring performances by The Gretchen Emery Band (Soul/Blues from Delaware) and The Dirty Rain Revelers (Roots-Rock/Americana, Shoals-based). May 19, 2024 – Heinie Manush Day 2024 (Franklin Farriers vs. Cumberland Club of Nashville), Heinie Manush Field at Deshler High School, Tuscumbia, AL. Join us in celebrating the legacy of Heinie Manush as the Franklin Farriers take on the Cumberland Club of Nashville in vintage “base ball”. May 27, 2024 – Ritz Theatre Camp (Grades 3-6), Ritz Theatre, 111 W 3rd Street, Sheffield. Price: $200 for general enrollment, $175 for TVAA members at the Family/Friend level or above The Ritz Theatre Summer Camp is instructed by Jaleesa Escott and administered by the Tennessee Valley Art Association. They will learn the basics of stage performance and character development as they spend the week rehearsing a short stage play, developing characters, creating sets, finding costumes, and learning blocking. The end of the camp will result in a small production for family and friends to attend. Parents will sign their child in at 9:00 AM each morning and pick up from the Ritz at 3:00 PM. Two snacks will be provided. Students will need to bring their sack lunch. Students should also dress for movement. Sneakers are preferred. May 31 – June 1, 2024 – North Alabama African Heritage Festival, Willie Green Center, 609 S. East St, Tuscumbia. Discover the beauty of African culture at the annual African Heritage Festival held every first weekend in June. Enjoy traditional drumming, lively dance demonstrations, and live music featuring rhythm & blues and gospel choirs. Explore African art, fashion, and crafts, and savor delicious food.
