COLBERT COUNTY-Colbert County Tourism has compiled a list of things to do and see in the month of August with a kicker of some of the events that are a must see and do in September:

July 23 – August 13, 2022 – Artworks – Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia.
Our 59th annual member exhibition showcases the work of our talented artists right here in the
Shoals area! Come see a wide range of art from dozens of artist members of the Tennessee Valley
Art Association. You can also vote for your favorites to win a People’s Choice Award. Member Reception: Saturday, July. Exhibition Hours: Tuesday-Friday 9am-5 pm; Saturday 10am-5pm.
August 12, 2022 – 35th Anniversary Film Screening: Dirty Dancing presented by the TVAA, Ritz Theatre,
111 W. 3rd St, Sheffield. You watched it 10,000 times in high school–now come see your favorite
comfort movie on the big screen! Just in time for the film’s 35th anniversary, you can relive all the romance, the music, and of course, the big lift. Make your evening even more fun by dressing for a
1963 summer in the Catskills! (But also feel free to just come as you are!) Concessions will be available, including popcorn, soda, water, candy, wine, and beer. Show begins at 7 pm. Seating is general admission. Tickets available online and at the door. www.tennesseevalleyarts.org
August 13, 2022 – “Swampaversary,” Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, 3614 Jackson Hwy, Sheffield. Muscle Shoals Sound Studio wants to take you back to funky town! It all started in 1969 with four local
musicians later known as the Swampers…now 53 years later the studio is restored back to it’s original
glory. We continue to honor the legacy while sustaining the future of the Studio! Muscle Shoals
Sound Studio is operated by a 501C3 non-profit organization. The hallowed music ground at Muscle
Shoals Sound will be rocking and rolling with David Hood, Clayton Ivey, Jimmy Nutt, Kelvin Holly, Andreas Werner and the soul shaking voice of Carla Russell will be performing in concert. This is a rain
or shine event with food and drinks available for purchase. Gates open at 5:30 pm, music starts at
6:30 pm. Tickets for the concert are $35 and available online.

August 18, 2022 – Muscle Shoals Music: Songwriters in the Round, Champy’s, 120 E 2nd St, Muscle
Shoals. Colbert County Tourism will sponsor a monthly music event each third Thursday of 2022. Local
songwriter and Wishbone Studio owner Billy Lawson will host and emcee the show each month. He
will be accompanied by an array of songwriters, both well established and up-and-coming talent
(TBA). Come hear the music and stories from the original artists. This free event will be held 7-9pm
each month. Sponsored by Colbert County Tourism & Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area. Info:

August 27, 2022 – Michael Bolton with the Shoals Symphony Orchestra, Norton Auditorium, UNA
Campus, Florence. Two-time Grammy award winner Michael Bolton joins the Shoals Symphony Orchestra at UNA to kick off the 40th Anniversary Season! Bolton has sold over 75 million albums worldwide and will perform his ‘Symphony of Hits’ that includes a Shoals staple, When A Man Loves A

August 25-28, 2022 – Deliver Us From Mama! Ritz Thatre, 111 W Third St, Sheffield. This rip-roaring, hilarious, high-octane race to beat the stork begins when Walker Sprunt’s wife, Hayley, goes into labor
with their first child. The problem? She’s in Alabama, and he is in L.A., trying his best to get through a
surprise visit from his meddling mother and his bossy big sister. With flights canceled, Mama proclaims “Family Road Trip!” and hilarity ensues as they race to Birmingham in time for the birth of her

September 5, 2022 – Shoals Area Labor Day Festival – Spring Park, Tuscumbia. The Shoals Labor
Council’s annual Labor Day celebration will be Monday, Sept. 6. It begins with a parade along Main
Street at 10 am. (Lineup for the parade begins at 9 am at Deshler High School.) Other activities will
follow in Spring Park, beginning at 11 am. . The celebration is the oldest of its kind in Alabama. Sponsored by the Shoals Area Central Labor Council. Information: 256-383-2758. M-F 8am-12pm or 256-

September 5, 2022 – The Coon Dog Labor Day Celebration, 4945 Coondog Cemetery Rd, Cherokee.
A unique festival is held each Labor Day at the only cemetery of its kind in the world. While visiting
the graves of several World Champion coon dogs, you can also enjoy a day full of old timey bluegrass music, buck dancing, a liar’s contest, and barbeque catered by nearby Bishop’s Barbeque.

September 16-18, 2022 Oka Kapassa: Return to Cold Water American Indian Festival, Spring Park,
Tuscumbia. Native American Culture is showcased in storytelling, dancing, music, art and crafts and
a torch-lighting ceremony. Over a dozen American Indian tribes return to their southeastern homeland. Friday is “School Day” from 8am – 2:30pm, which is primarily for area school children.
(Although Friday is open to the public, parking in Spring Park will be very limited because of reserved
bus parking and for other school groups.) Saturday is open to the public from 9am – 6pm. Admission

September 17, 2022 – 29th Annual Trail of Tears, hosted by AL-TN Trail of Tears Corridor Association,
Inc. Ride the official Trail of Tears Route, from Ross’s Landing in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the official start in Bridgeport, Alabama. The route follows Hwy 72 westbound to its final stop in Waterloo.
Free 3-day American Indian Festival in Waterloo begins Friday afternoon. Vendors, food, arts & crafts.
