Wendell Ray Gullion, age 81, passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of August 29th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.D. and Lois Gullion and his brother, Gerald Gullion. He was the fourth of six children and was born in Guntersville, Alabama. He grew up in Marshall County in the Brashier’s Chapel Community and graduated from Arab High School. While in school, he played on the basketball team and sang with the FFA Quartet. In his early career, he was a flat top barber in Guntersville, Alabama. He later worked in construction before becoming an agent for Liberty National Life Insurance Company where he worked until retirement. Afterwards, he was self-employed for many years, building and remodeling houses. He loved to cook, bargain hunt, buy and sell items, and collect guns, cars, and antiques.
He is survived by his sister Marzee Shetterly, brother Gerald Gullion’s widow Nellie, brother Thomas Gullion (wife Carolyn), sister Rachel Hoopes (husband Ned), and brother Jimmy Gullion (wife Judy). His son, Rodney Gullion, daughter Wendy Brandon (husband Scott), son Andy Gullion (wife Tamera). His grandchildren Emily Watkins (husband Patrick), Samuel Brandon, Riley Gullion, and Wyatt Gullion. His great grandchildren: Dante, Canaan, and his newest Phoenix Watkins, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Wendell was a beloved part of the Arab and Morgan City communities and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Interment to follow in Rescue Cemetery, Morgan City. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m.
