Weaver David “Herby” Greenhaw, a lifelong Athens resident, was born August 22, 1941. He passed from this life July 21, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his children.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 24th at First Presbyterian Church Revival Center (303 Washington Street) at 12 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary.
Herby was preceded in death by his parents, Oakley and Ruby Greenhaw, brother Jimmy Greenhaw, and his beloved wife of 56 years, Jo Ellen Greenhaw. He is survived by his children, Melanie (Steve) McBay, Greg (Stacey) Greenhaw, Chad (Kerrie) Greenhaw, and Clint Greenhaw; grandchildren, Jake Moore, Gavin Greenhaw, Baylor Greenhaw, Sophie Greenhaw, London Greenhaw, Addison Greenhaw, Reece Greenhaw, Carson Greenhaw, Lawson Moore, LilliAnne Yarbrough, and Claire Greenhaw; great grandson, Brodie Moore; several nieces, a nephew, and special caregivers and friends, Ruby Crooks, Cynthia Daniel, Shirley Rager. Special thanks to Hospice of North Alabama.
Herby was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens and sang in the choir. He also sang with Clear Title southern gospel quartet. He co-owned Greenhaw’s Auctioneers, Dub’s Burgers, and Kreme Delight. He served his country as an Army Airborne Ranger, Green Beret, and in the National Guard. He was known for his hugs and big smile and he never met a stranger. He loved spending time with friends, singing, playing golf, and cheering for Alabama and Athens football. Most of all, Herby loved his wife and his family.
Pallbearers will be Greg Greenhaw, Chad Greenhaw, Clint Greenhaw, Jake Moore, Gavin Greenhaw, and Baylor Greenhaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Reece Greenhaw, Carson Greenhaw, Lawson Moore, and Brodie Moore.
