Wayne Melvin Mullen, age 84, passed away May 28 after a brief illness at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Born October 15, 1930, in St, Louis, MO, Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by parents, John and Martha Walden Mullen, and brother, Col. Edward Mullen. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joy Smith Mullen, sons Dr. Stan Mullen, Russell and Sherry Vaughn Mullen, and Phillip and Kim Terry Mullen, all of Woodbury, TN, sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Dolores Jones of Maryland Heights, MO, brother Don Mullen of Cuba, MO, and brother and sister-in-law, Clinton and Judy Mullen of Mulvane, KS. Mr. Mullen is also survived by grandchildren Brian Mullen, Laura Mullen Cain, Kristen Mullen West, Ben Mullen, Rachel Mullen, Chris Mullen, John Mullen, and Katie Mullen, and one great grandchild Dylan Cain along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mullen was a 1949 graduate of Cuba High School. He was a Korean War veteran, proudly serving with the 5th and 18th Air Forces, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. After service to his country, Mr. Mullen attended the University of Missouri. Mr. Mullen retired from the John Oster Corporation, McMinnville, TN, with over thirty years service and held the positions of Human Resources Manager, Production Control Manager, and Assistant Plant Manager. Mr. Mullen was a member of the Woodbury Church of Christ for over fifty years. He was an avid reader and long distance runner, and in retirement, loved gardening, especially giving away the fruits of his labor.
Above all, Mr. Mullen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He lived to serve his family, and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Herb Alsup officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4 pm to 8 pm Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lick Creek Cemetery Association, Cuba, MO, Short Mountain Bible Camp, or the charity of your choice.
