Wayne David Mathis, 54, of Dennis, Mississippi, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. Mr. Mathis was a member of the Iuka Church of God. He worked in the construction industry for thirty-five years, and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #369. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 until 9:00 p.m., Monday, July 15, at the Iuka Church of God. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the Iuka Church of God, officiated by Bro. Rodney Windham and Bro. James Strange. Interment will follow in Palestine Cemetery. Pallbearers include David Crane, Stephen Crane, Cory Mathis, Randy Mink, Benny Jernigan, and Matt Morris. Honorary Pallbearers include Chris Mathis and the members of the Operating Engineers Local #369. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Belue Mathis of Dennis, MS; two daughters, Stephanie Mathis Humphries (Adam) of Belmont, MS, and Lisa Blackard (Tommy) of Iuka, MS; two brothers, Kenneth Mathis (Diane) and Chuck Mathis (Donna), all of Iuka, MS; and three grandchildren, Mason Humphries, Kellan Blackard, and Hank Humphries. He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Bernice Chandler Mathis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Iuka Church of God Building Fund.
