Wayne A. Bishop, age 85 of Middleton, passed away October 6, 2014 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi.
He was born in Middleton on May 15, 1929. Preceding him in death were his parents, Egbert and Beulah Stewart Bishop; his wife o f58 years, Margaret Emerson Bishop; and his son-in-law, David Whaley. He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Whaley of Germantown; sons, Larry (Kim) Bishop, and Randy (Sharon) Bishop, both of Middleton; grandchildren, Amy Whaley (Greg Schrader) of Marietta, Georgia, Eric (Karen) Whaley, and Jason (Adrienne) Whaley, both of Germantown, Adam (Jenny) Bishop, and Amanda (Bill) Cornelius, Jay and Ben Bishop, all of Middleton; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce (Derald) Smith of Bolivar.
Wayne attended the University of Tennessee at Martin after graduating from Middleton High School, and received an Associate’s degree from Jackson State Community College. He was a sawmiller and timberman and small crop farmer before having a career as rural mail carrier. He usually had a sideline business of “wheelin’ and dealin’.” He attended Middleton Methodist Church and Porter’s Creek Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a man of vast knowledge, quick wit, and a gift for gab. He loved his family and friends, reading, country cooking, and country music. In the past, he was a volunteer fireman and member of the Lion’s Club.
