Walter Steven Smith

Walter Steven Smith, born February 16, 1946 in St. Louis Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023 in Toney, Alabama. He was the son of the late Walter Henry and Leatha Johnson Smith.

From a young age, Walter had a strong sense of service and at 18 joined the Air Force as a Sargent E4 crew chief and served for 8 years in the Air Force.   During his time in the Air Force he was deployed to Vietnam where he worked as a maintenance crew chief.   After leaving the Air Force, he entered the work force working for the Civil Service as a logistics manager for the army and was involved with working on Apache helicopters.

Walter was an avid pilot and loved to fly recreationally in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sisters Patricia Carter and Joanne Smith, and brothers Bruce Smith and Donald Smith.

Walter is survived by his loving wife Ann Smith; daughter Michelle Trentham; sons Steven (Rebecca) Smith and Jeffrey (Jane) Smith; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday,  December 29th at 3:30pm – 5:00 PM  at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Per the families wishes, there will be no public service following the visitation.

Walter Steven Smith will be remembered for his generous spirit and courageous heart that touched everyone he met throughout his life – from serving his country to providing for his family – and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
