Walter “Pete” Glenn
Mr. Walter Glenn passed away at his home in Alpharetta, Ga. on March 13, 2013. He was 75.
A graveside service for family and friends will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Florence Cemetery. Reverend Richard Gillespie, First Presbyterian Church, Florence, will be officiating.
Pete graduated from Coffee High School and the University of Alabama. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Confederate Officers. He was an avid art collector and a recognized authority in the American Art Deco period, specifically Frankart. He was a many years’ contributor to both Warman’s, and Schroeder’s Antiques Price Guides as well as other publications.
His broad range of interests was represented by membership during his lifetime in The National Audubon Society, Sports Car Club of America, Atlanta Blues Society, Art Deco Society of New York and Train Collector’s of America. Pete will be remembered and honored for his passion as he encouraged and supported the Delta Blues Foundation as well as visual artists throughout the Southeast.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Glenn; children, March Glenn and wife Courtney, Stephen Glenn, Walter J. Glenn and wife Susan; grandchildren, Richard Glenn, Henry Glenn, Walter and Maya; nephews and niece, Lake E. Tate, III, Joe G. Tate, Redman Miller, Barton M. Tate, John L. Tate, Blake Regan and Martha Garrison.
Pete was preceded in death by his sisters, Doodle Glenn Tate, Katherine Glenn Miller; and a brother, Richard Johnson Glenn.
