Elder Walter Nathaniel Bennett, 84 of Haleyville, passed away September 9, 2023 at Helen Keller Hospital.
He was born February 5, 1939 in Moulton, Alabama. Elder Walter has been a pastor for 45 years and is the current Pastor at Old Burleson Missionary Baptist Church in Vina, Alabama. He retired from Marshall Durbin in 2010.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 6:00pm -8:00pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the service will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 2:00pm. Brother Chris Hand and Elder Buford Parker will officiate. Burial will follow at Liberty Grove Cemetery in Ashridge, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Blake Doss, Kyle Doss, Chris Bennett, Josh Bennett, Tony Lewis, and Mario Bernel.
Walter is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Lewis Bennett; daughter, Becky (Mark) Doss; grandsons, Chris (Valerie) Bennett, Josh (Brooke) Bennett, Blake (Megan) Doss, and Kyle Doss; great grandchildren, Emma and Olivia Bennett, Rebecca Doss, Gracelyn Gay, Thomas Bennett, and Nathaniel Reed Doss; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgel and Ethel Bennett; son, Tommy Bennett; 1 infant child; and 1 granddaughter, Tonya Bennett; brothers, James, Willard, and Arnold Bennett; and sister, Elizabeth Bennett.
