Walter N. Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Thursday night, September 19, 2024 at the age of 91.
Walter was born in Smithville, TN on March 21, 1933 to his parents, the late, Jesse and Linnie Johnson. Affectionately known as “PA”, Walter will be remembered for his tenacious attitude and pride of a good day’s work along with his dedication to his family and this country. Walter served as a Corporal in the 73rd Armored Field Artillery 1st Armored Division from 1953 – 1955 at Ft. Hood, Texas. Soon after he started his 28 year career at General Motors in Michigan where he was a part of the tool and die division. Upon retirement, Walter and Jo moved back to Smithville where they enjoyed their friends, family and community for the next 33 years. He found much joy as a long standing member of Smithville’s American Legion Post 122.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Donnie, Juanita, Paul, Huston, Johnny, Buel and Charles. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jo Doris Johnson; his daughter, Paula (Jerry) O’Brien; granddaughters, Caitilyn (Justin) Wisniewski and Molly (Patrick) Malley; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Quinn, Rory, Maeve and Finn; sisters, Rose (George) Daniels and Wanda (Ben) Wright.
The Johnson family gives thanks to God for the life Walter modeled, and we know that he, his parents and siblings are rejoicing as they are together again. Visitation with the Johnson family will be on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 11:AM until 1:PM. Funeral services will be 1:PM Saturday, September 28, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and entombment will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard.
