Funeral for Walter B. Florence, 96, of Decatur will be Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Eichelberger and Scott Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Florence, who died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home, was born August 25, 1916, in Vivian, La., to Zan Z. and Lillie B. Florence. He worked as a night superintendent for Amoco Chemical Corp. for 42 years, which started as Standard Oil & Gas. He was an active beekeeper and avid hunter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Margaret J. Florence; and one son, Tommy Ray Florence.
Survivors include one son, Bert Florence Jr. “Walter Berdie Florence Jr.” of Vienna, Illinois; lifelong friends of 48 years, Doug and Nancy Raney of Athens; three grandchildren, Jon Florence, James Florence and Heather Rys; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Rys, Jamie Rys, Audrey St. Germain, Jillian Ramdy and Caitlain Heaton; and two great-great-grandchildren, Julia and Charlotte St. Germain.
