SHEFFIELD-Some of the fish they catch are small, but the smiles on the faces of the anglers at the 16th annual Timmy Horton Fishing for Kids fishing rodeo are always huge.
The annual event matches special needs anglers with volunteers who take them fishing on Pickwick Lake. This year’s fishing rodeo is Saturday, Sept. 27 out of Riverfront Park in Sheffield. Volunteers with fishing boats, pontoon boats and deck boats are needed to take the special anglers fishing. The pontoon boats are needed for anglers who use wheelchairs.
The anglers will fish 9-11 a.m. Live bait can be used and will be provided.
Volunteers are needed 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided for the anglers and volunteers.
Horton, a professional angler and outdoors television personality from Muscle Shoals, said everyone leaves the fishing rodeo with a smile.
“We all have a blast,” Horton said. “I travel all over America fishing in tournaments and taping TV shows, but I always look forward to Fishing for Kids as much as anything I do.”
