Virginia Speegle Southard “Granit” passed away peacefully among loved ones and under the word of God on February 10, 2023. She left this life as she lived it – on her own terms, despite her bold fight with cancer.
Virginia was born on May 16, 1952, to James and Ethel Speegle in Cullman, AL. When she met Bill, they began building a life together by laying a solid foundation of strong values, support and most importantly love. Virginia and Bill went on to have three children, Michelle, Lisa, and Billy.
She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables throughout her life. Virginia’s work ethic began in the food service industry and ended working for Damson Automotive. She loved her coworkers like family and cherished her time there. She adored being Granit to all her grandchildren. She loved her family fiercely and took every opportunity to support them. She attended every event she could, whether it be Zach’s baseball games, Ava’s softball/volleyball games or even just to watch Teddy and Tristan play, especially at our weekly suppers.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Southard, her parents, two sisters, and one brother. Survivors include her children, Michelle Bradford (Jeff), Billy Southard Jr. (Stacie), and Lisa Southard; siblings, Myra Phillips (Doug), Floyd Speegle (Dean), Janet Calvert (Doug), and Jerry Speegle; grandchildren, Zachary Bradford, Ava Stone, Teddy Southard, Tristan Southard; and a bonus grandchild.
Visitation will be Monday, February 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with the funeral immediately following in the chapel. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery in Estillfork, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to https://bethematch.org/.
