Virginia Pearce Dortch – Obituary

Virginia Pearce Dortch, age 81, of Birmingham, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 28, 2014. She loved the Lord and serving others while an active member of Crestway Baptist Church for over 50 years.

A native of Birmingham, Virginia was born Dec. 30, 1932. She attended Ramsay High School and is an alumna of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, where she joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduation from college, she returned to Birmingham and married the late Kirksey “Buddy” Dortch Jr, and lovingly raised five children. She was a devoted volunteer at Crestway Baptist Church as well as Avondale Park and Crestwood Park where her children were active in sports.

Virginia is survived by two sons, Kirk (Linnie) Dortch, of Carrollton, Georgia, and Ken Dortch, of Birmingham; a daughter, Cheryl Dortch White, of Homewood; a daughter-in-law, Marleen Dortch, of Florence; and her grandchildren, Duffee Dortch, Katie Dortch, Ashley (Michael) Lord, Heather White, Houston White, Molly Dortch, Logan Dortch, Deanna (Greg) Beck, and Dalisha Herring; one brother, William Pearce, of Vestavia Hills; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Kirksey “Buddy” Dortch Jr., two sons, Thomas Preston Dortch and Robert William (Billy) Dortch, her parents, Thomas Preston Pearce and Lorena Powell, and a brother, Preston Pearce.

The family will receive friends at Crestway Baptist Church on Friday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. with the memorial service, officiated by Dr. Jimmy Wilson and Brother Chuck Wall, at 11 a.m. Following will be a graveside service at Forest Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crestway Baptist Church or the 

. Arrangements will be handled by Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Parlor.
