Virginia L. Mitchem, 82, passed away Oct. 9, 2013, in a nursing facility in Baldwin County, Ala. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Greenview Memorial Park.
She was born in Jackson, Ala., where she met and married James Mitchem. They moved to Florence, where she lived for 64 years. Virginia was a member of the Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ. She was retired from the city of Florence Water Department. A great lover of cats, she had many rescued cats through the years.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James. She is survived by one brother, Neal McLendon of Miller’s Ferry, Ala.; nephews, Ben McLendon of Satsuma, Ala., and Ken (Kim) McLendon of Jackson, Ala.; great niece, Courtney McLendon of Gulf Shores, Ala.
