Virginia Faye Phelps Virginia “Jenny” Faye Phelps, 75 of Brownsboro, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023.

She is survived by three daughters and sons: Leah Ann Parton (Bubba), Tammy Mahaffey (Jimmy), and Jamie Martin (Jason); eleven grandchildren: Jennifer Parton, Cody Parton, Troy and Gabby Mahaffey, Haley and Willie Callahan, Hannah and Kathan Johnson, Austin Martin, Emily Martin, and Kyleigh Martin; four great grandchildren: Noah Parton, Lucas Callahan, Grayson Callahan and Harrison Johnson; three sisters: Treva Mefford (Tommy), Beverly Jenkins (Benny), and Marcella Lamb (Alvin). Jenny also left behind her church family, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends that she loved and adored.

Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James “Boewevil” Phelps of 56 years; father, H.M. Miller; mother, Bethel Miller; father-in-law, Ed Edger; mother-in-law, Sally Edger; sisters, Ellon Bozarth and Ruby Fields; brother, H.B. Miller; brother-in-laws, Lois Bozarth and Billy Fields; and one angel baby boy, James Stephen Phelps.

Jenny worked for the Huntsville City School System for 20+ years as a CNP worker and manager. During this time, she served as the Assistant First Lady and First Lady of the Gurley Church of God. She was known by many titles during her life, but “Ma Jenny” was the one she held most dear. She loved spending time with her husband, sisters, children, and grandchildren. She was a true warrior for Christ, enjoyed helping people, and truly loved her church family. She has made a positive impact on so many lives. She has served the Lord since she was a little girl and loved to sing about Heaven and the goodness of God. We will see you again one day Mama, until then, you sing with the angels, “I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now”!

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 6th, at Berryhill Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Mrs. Phelps will be lying in state on Wednesday, June 7th, at Gurley Church of God from 1:00 to 2:00PM. Services will follow at 2:00PM with Rev. Nicky Bozarth and Pastor Jason Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Pleas Mont Cemetery.
