Funeral for Virgina Odell Laurence Johnson, 93, of Decatur will be Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Reverend J.D. Thorne officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.Virginia Johnson went home to our Lord on February 21, 2015. Born on April 30, 1921, she was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Bell Laurence and two sisters, Vialeeta Wilson and Fay Lamon. Surviving are her husband of 71 years, William Harless Johnson; two daughters, Sandra Clark and her husband, Fred; Shirley Ziegler and her husband, Tom; and her son, Gerald Johnson and his wife, Leslie. She had seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Kenneth Noblin and his wife, Kirsten; Amy Kearns and her husband, Jason; Tony Ziegler and his wife, Ida; Daniel Johnson, Ben Johnson, Jordan Johnson and Caleb Johnson. Her great-grandchildren are Hannah Noblin, Caitlin Noblin, Kelly Noblin, Lydia Kearns, Andrew Kearns and Anna Belle Kearns. Her surviving brothers and sisters are George Laurence and his wife, Jean; B.J. Laurence and his wife, Ann; Christeva Johnson and June Palmer. Odell had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a member of Point Mallard Parkway Baptist Church and had been a charter member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. She led a long, beautiful, and productive life of service to others, always considering others before herself.
