Captain Vincent J. Shumber Ret. of Owens Cross Roads, passed away October 8, 2024. He was born in Homestead, PA and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1964. He was selected as a Warrant Officer and then a Commissioned Limited Duty Officer, retiring as a captain after 21 years of service. He served in 2nd LAAM Battalion (Yuma, AZ), 3rd LAAM Bn (Fresno, CA), and Marine Detachment RSA Hawk Missile System (Huntsville, AL). During his service, he was deployed to Norway and Puerto Rico.

After retiring from the USMC, he worked at Virginia College as DOE and SCI as a leader in the Calibration Lab. He also worked at the Missile Defense Agency.

Vince spent many hours with his retired Marine friends building ramps and cutting trees, donating the firewood to the disabled and needy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent G. and Catherine Shumber, brother Richard and sister Anita. He is survived by Glenda Tabor Shumber, step-daughter DeJuana Wilbourn (Jimmy), grandsons Josh Wilbourn (Ondrea), Jake Wilbourn (Hannah), and sister-in-law Linda Tabor McConnell.

Visitation will be Saturday 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow Saturday at 1:00 PM.

Interment will be in Moon Cemetery.
