Veterans Day Information from the City of Athens

ATHENS-Please note that all City of Athens offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, in recognition of Veterans Day.

However, sanitation routes will run as scheduled. All residents with Tuesday service are encouraged to have their bins to the curb by 6:00 a.m.

Local Veterans Day Observances and Events

  • The Wall That Heals: A three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be on display at Beasley Field, 415 E. Hobbs Street, at Athens State University. Viewing begins after the opening ceremony tomorrow morning, November 6, at 8:30 a.m. The memorial will be on display until November 9.

  • Athens State University “Salute to Service”: This musical tribute to veterans featuring Jimmy Fortune will be held at McCandless Hall, 367 E. Bryan Street. There will be two concerts on Saturday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Veterans will receive a discounted price for tickets.   • Athens Limestone County 2025 Veterans Day Parade: Join us for the AMVETS AL Post 21’s annual parade on Tuesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. The parade route will be blocked off from through traffic during the event. The route is as follows:

  • Start: Corner of Pryor and Golden Eagle Drive

  • Head West on Pryor

  • South on Shaw

  • West on Hobbs

  • South on Jefferson

  • East on Market

  • South on Marion

  • West on Washington

  • South on Jefferson

  • Finish: Public Library
