Mrs. Verta Sue Waldrum Blair, 79, homemaker and widow of J.W. “Jady” Blair, died Sunday at her residence in Columbia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blair will be conducted Thursday, February 28, 2019 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with James Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born April 1, 1939 in Appleton, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Robin Clyde Waldrum and Lula Pearl Williams Waldrum. Sue married J.W. “Jady” Blair on March 12, 1982. Sue worked at Doug White Florists for many years. Mrs. Blair was a very talented cook and seamstress, she made clothes for all of her children. Mrs. Blair loved gardening and always had a yard full of the most beautiful flowers. Sue loved her family and enjoyed traveling and going to the beach. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sue is survived by daughters, Melinda (Mike) Collins, Paula (Rick) Sanders, Joan Howard; son, Tony Howard; granddaughter, Lacey Padgett; great grandchildren, Lakelon Renaud, Kylynn Padgett, Gracelan Padgett, Barrett Padgett; sister, Betty Waterbury; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sue is preceded in death by brother Neal Waldrum, James Waldrum, Wendell “Joe” Waldrum; sister Augzella Brown.
Pallbearers will be Barry Waldrum, John Waldrum, Michael Waldrum, David Waldrum, Jackson Mashburn, Parker Mashburn, and Mark Goatz. Honorary pallbearers will include Betty Waldrum, Debbie & Ron Namias, Digger & Ann Whitley, and Kay Wood.
