  F 5.9.23 Verna Lee Brennan.jpgVerna Lee Brennan, 78, of Sheffield, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023. A memorial visitation for her will be held at Colbert Memorial Chapel on Saturday, May 27, 2023 beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Lillian Slack.

Before retirement, Verna was the Vice President and then President of L&L Services, Inc. which developed and operated Park Place and other companies such as the Foodland Stores, Greenview Memorial Park, Colbert Memorial Gardens, The Courier Journal and Metro Communication Services.

She served on several boards representing Sheffield which included the Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau, Sheffield Redevelopment Board, Sheffield Education Foundation Board, Sheffield Port Authority, Colbert County Historical Board, Tennessee Valley Art Association and Easter Seals of NW Alabama.

She was a member of Sheffield Kiwanis Club, Sheffield City Council, Chief Colbert Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of American Colonists, Magna Charta Dames and Barons, and Kentucky Colonels. She had served as a state officer and on the Boards of Directors for these organizations.

Honest and hardworking, she kept her promise to represent her community to the best of her abilities. The Shoals was her adopted home and she loved serving her community.

Verna is survived by her daughters, Shelly Crawford (Steve), Lisa Thompson (Parkey), Mia Wilson, and Patricia Lipe (Brian); grandchildren, Kayla, Jordan, Morgan, Micah, Logan, Megan, and Sara; great-grandchild, Chandler; brother, Bruce Slack (Becky); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family gives a special thanks to The Village Community for all they have done for our mother over the years.
