Verdis Jackson “Billy” Williamson, Jr., age 76 of Newell, AL, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at his home. Billy was born in Wilmington, Delaware on November 2, 1946. He worked as a supervisor at the Anniston Army Depot until his retirement. Billy was an avid lover of dirt track racing, Alabama football, and his family and friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Verdis “Bill” and Gladys Williamson; and grandson, Austin Scott Williamson.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Williamson of Newell, AL; children, Jason Williamson of Centralhatchee, GA, Lori (Shane) Jarrell of Heflin, AL, and Chris (Brandie) Hill of Newell, AL; grandchildren, Jacob Williamson, Cadence Jarrell, Brennan Jarrell, Tyler Hill, Taylor Hill and Emma Hill; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnny Williamson and Donald Williamson; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service for Billy will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Union Baptist Church, 7645 Old Highway 431, Newell, AL 36280. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. A reception will immediately follow for all family and friends.
