Mrs. Vera "Ozell" Wray Green Ms. Vera “Ozell” Wray Green, age 99, of the Mobbs School Community of Union Grove, Alabama passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at her residence. She was born November 12, 1923 in Hartselle, Alabama. Her parents were Benjamin Franklin Wray and Georgie Olevia Dutton Wray. She was married to Hoyt Boyd “Tobe” Green who passed away in 1976. Ms. Green was a charter member of the North Parkway Church of Christ.
Ms. Green passed away just eight months short of her 100th birthday. The events she lived through and experiences she had we have only heard of and/or read about. She was a member of the Greatest Generation. She and her many siblings grew up and spent their childhood during the Great Depression. She was a young adult during World War II. She experienced the Korean War, JFK and the Cold War, first man on the moon, Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, technology explosion and many other events we have forgotten about. But Ozell was a realist. She knew what was important and appreciated the simple things. Ozell loved to visit the Guntersville Dam and Tennessee River. She was an enthusiastic “Eagle Watcher.” She spent numerous hours cooking, gardening and sewing for her family. Her loves included her family, (especially the grandchildren and their young ones), and Alabama football. You could often find her wearing her houndstooth hat.
Ms. Green is survived by her sons, Buddy Green (Sydenia), Max Green (Vickie), Neal Green, Ted Green (Vickie); daughter, Avis Mason (Wayne); brothers, Tony Wray and Victor Wray; sister, Jacqueline Padgett (Milford); 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren.
Ms. Green is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Georgie Wray; son, Travis Green; seven siblings: three grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
A visitation is planned for Ms. Green between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on April 3, 2023 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel in Arab, Alabama. Funeral services will be immediately after the visitation at 2:00 p.m. Brother Mike Douglas will be officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Morgan City.
