Vera Jeanette Matkins, 79, a dear sweet soul entered eternity with her Savior, on Monday night, June 17, 2024, from an undiagnosed illness at NMMC in Tupelo, MS. Jeanette graduated from Greenwood High School in 1963. She married the love of her life, Billy Matkins, on September 5, 1969. She worked for over 30 years before retiring and becoming a homemaker. Through her life, she had worked for different churches all over Mississippi and volunteered for several youth organizations.
Jeanette lived in her happy Christ filled home until her entry through the pearly gates.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Billy Matkins of Pontotoc; her brother, Charles Bledsoe(Carol); her sister, Daphne Foster(Roger); her children, Edward Herrington(Teresa), Wade Matkins(Honey), and Kit Matkins; her grandchildren, Ashley New, Hillary Piggot(Jacob), Will Matkins(Anna-Brooke), Chanse Ruth(Madelyn), Jeralyn Matkins, Nikki Graham(Chad), and John Daniel Rodgers; her great-grandchildren, Victoria New, Gracie New, Corbin Piggot, Trace Matkins, Maylie-Brooke Matkins, John-Wade Matkins, Asher Ruth, Leighton Jones, Luna-Jane Ruth, Rayra Mae Taylor, Bryson Farris, Chloe Farris, and Everly Graham; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Bledsoe and Vera Dearman; her beloved brothers, JW Bledsoe, Pete Bledsoe, Buddy Bledsoe, Buddy Bledsoe, Noel Bledsoe, and Preston Bledsoe; and her precious sisters, Josie Wigginton and Doris Lucas.
Services will be Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 3PM at Harvest Time Church with Bro. David Hall, Jr. officiating. Visitation will begin at 2PM and continue to service time. Burial will follow in Thaxton Cemetery.
