Velma Marie Staggs Thrasher Dean of Collinwood, TN was born May 1, 1933 in Wayne Co., TN, the daughter of the late Frank and Elsie Cummins Staggs. She was united in marriage to Roy Thrasher and he preceded in death on April 19, 1991 and then married Terry Dean on August 29, 1992.
Mrs. Dean was a homemaker and a member of the Hendrix Chapel Church of Christ in Florence, Alabama and departed this life on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at her home at the age of 82 Years, 3 Months, 26 Days.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Dean of Collinwood, TN; sons, Benny and Greg Thrasher both of Collinwood, TN; daughters, Linda Hart of Florence, AL, Carolyn Pigg of Collinwood, TN; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Reba Berry of Waynesboro, TN; a brother, Grady Staggs of Collinwood, TN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by sons, Roy Gene, Earnest and Gary Thrasher; a sister, Billie Jean Brewer; brothers, Tommy, Guy, Newton and Harvey Staggs.
Services will be Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Wayne Wood officiating. Burial will be in McGlamery Cemetery, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Chris Pigg, Timmy Pigg, Kennith Thrasher, Steven Hart, Shannon Thrasher and Billy Berry.
Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2015 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Saturday, August 30, 2015 from 9 am until service time at the funeral home.
