Velma Lee Moore
Passed away on September 18, 2023, at NAMC in Florence, Alabama from medical complications at the age of 92. She passed peacefully and free of pain, surrounded by her family.
Velma was born on May 11, 1931, in Franklin County Alabama and after residing there for most of her life, had lived in Sheffield, Alabama for the past 9 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Rubin Moore, her parents William Arlin and Linnie Oliver, brother-Kenneth Oliver, brother -Donnis Oliver, son-Doyle Moore, and grandson-Bradley McCollister.
She is survived by a brother-James Oliver, sister -Marvalene (Bill) Richardson, sister -Lucille Vandiver.
—Her children: Linda McCollister, Gerald (Pam) Moore, Brenda (Jerry) Jones, and Sherry Hodges.
— Her grandchildren: Ladonna Parker, Mitch (Brandi) Moore, Kelley (Ed) Fox, Lorie Robbins, Dusty (Jessica) Moore, Haley Mays, Jerry (Whitney) Jones Jr.
—23 great-grandchildren, and 7 great great-grandchildren.
She retired from the H.D. Lee company after 30 plus years of loyal service. She was a crochet extraordinaire, vivid storyteller, had unmatched wit and sarcasm, could cook a mean pot of dumplings and missed her calling as a standup comedian. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always worrying over everyone else before herself. She was a “motherly” sort above all else and took many under her wing along the way throughout her long life. She was very dearly loved and admired by so many.
She loved a good Rook game and hosting get togethers. Never one to shrink from a houseful of guests, their home was always open -and the more the merrier. She loved visiting with others as well and had many friends.
She attended Centerview Church of Christ of Russellville, Alabama for most of her adult life and later attended Tri Cities Church of Christ of Muscle Shoals.
Following Velma’s wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral service but rather a brief graveside service for immediate family only on Tuesday September 19, at 3:00- officiated by Brother Stacy Crim.
Pall bearers (and honorary) will be as follows Mitch Moore, Dusty Moore, Kanen Robbins, Aidan Robbins, Skip Hodges, Steve Oliver, Jackie Goins, Dozer Moore, Derrick Mays Jr., Jerry Jones, Jr., and Kaleb Jones.
Spry Memorial Chapel of Russellville Alabama will be handling the arrangements and she will be laid to rest in Franklin Memory Gardens of Russellville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a worthy cause of your choosing.
