Vance “Blinky” Evans, Jr., age 72, Haleyville, AL. passed away Saturday February 18, 2017. He was born in Sheffield, AL. , Vance was a 1962 graduate from Deshler High School was a 1966 graduate of the University of Georgia where he played football. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in the garden, and spending time with his grandchildren. He worked in various positions in the Manufactured Housing Industry for 40 years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Haleyville.
His visitation will be held February 21, 2017 from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Haleyville , with the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at the church, Bro. Nathan Carroll officiating. Burial in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by, wife, Becky Turner Evans; children, Todd (Heather) Evans and Brooke (Jason) Yarbrough; brothers and sister, Chuck Evans, Dot (Randy) Grider, Bo (Debby) Evans and Kenneth (Debbie) Evans; grandchildren, Will Evans, Mary Kathryn Evans, Dixon Evans, Maddie Jane Evans, Rome Yarbrough and Nash Yarbrough; a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Squeaky and Billie McDaniel Evans, Sr.; grandson, Wesley Dixon Evans.

We knew him as our defensive line coach my freshman year at UGA
Not real sure the stories that could be told should be told but so am positive he was one of the great characters on those teams and the right guy to go down an alley with. He had your back
And had a lot of that “follow me” attitude he learned from ERK.
He was one of the Best Old Dawgs and will be missed by those of us who knew and played for him.
