TUSCUMBIA-There is an update on the article that ran on Wednesday, January 29 concerning the arrest of Kevin Wade Vinson, 33 who pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse. This is the information given by the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, January 30:
“Mr. Kevin Wade Vinson was charged with Sexual Abuse of a child under the age of twelve, sodomy, and Enticing a Child. The abuse started in 2001 when the victim lived in another County. When the victim’s family moved to Colbert County the abuse continued but wasn’t reported until several years later when the victim became an adult. The victim had moved on in his life and had put the abuse behind him. However, the victim didn’t want anyone else to have to go through the same abuse he did as a child. The victim filed a report with the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office. The case was investigated by Lt. Roger Denton with the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office who worked closely the District Attorney’s Office. After the investigation was complete the case was taken before a grand jury where Mr. Vinson was indicted on the charges listed above. He was arrested and held in the Colbert County Jail for approximately 10 months, on Jan. 28, 2020 Mr. Vinson plead guilty to Sexual Abuse 1st Degree. He was sentenced to 10 years split with time served with the balance suspended for 5 years, pending no other violations with Law Enforcement. As a condition of his plea Mr. Vinson must register as a sex offender for the rest of life, this was a request by the victim as one of the conditions of his plea agreement. The plea agreement was requested and approved by the victim before the District Attorney’s Office agreed to the plea. Plea agreements made by the DA’s office are approved by the victim in all sexual assault cases, as in this case the victim was now an adult and the plea agreement meet the outcome he wished with the case and didn’t want to subject his family to a trial.”
