Limestone County DHR is collecting school supplies for children in their care. Items needed include construction paper, Crayola crayons, notebook paper, pens, pocket folders, and more.  If you can donate, bring items to DHR at 1007 W. Market St. by July 18.

Saturday, July 23, Friendship United Methodist Church

The motorcycle ride is sponsored by River City Syndicate Motorcycle Club and will be rain or shine with the ride beginning and ending at Friendship United Methodist Church at 16479 Lucas Ferry Road. Registration is from 10-11:30 a.m. The first 20 to register will receive a free ride shirt. There will be live music, door prizes, a gun raffle and food plates. Proceeds from the ride will go to the Athens Police Department Honor Guard for the purchase of uniforms and equipment. For information about the ride, email jcagle@athensal.us.

Saturday, July 23, Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena

The Tennessee Valley Flat Trackers are hosting the Dirt Track Series at the Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena on the afternoon of July 23. Gates will open at 1 p.m. with sign-ups being from 3-5 p.m. Practice will start at 5:30 p.m. with the racing to follow. Cost is $10 at the gate, with children 6 and younger getting in free. There is fuzz in your belly button and jam between your toes — And sometimes, things fall out of your nose. What is that all about? Light refreshments from 6-6:45 p.m. in the courtyard. Greg will share hilarious stories about those who make the news and report the news, as well as some Facebook photos and posts that make one wonder, “Why would you share that?”  Tickets are $20 each or $35 per couple. Tickets available at Athens City Hall, Athens Police Department and High Cotton Arts at 103 West Washington. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday in July, 6:30-9:30 p.m., Carnival grounds at 309 E. Forrest St.

10 rides including a small Ferris wheel, rocket ships, swings, carousel, train, roller coaster, parachute rides, bigger swings and the scrambler. There is also bingo and concessions with sandwiches, French fries, popcorn, Sno cones, funnel cakes and drinks. Tokens to ride are just 50 cents each and all monies go to local charities.
