FLORENCE – Officials with the University of North Alabama said they will now provide a winter session for interested students, making UNA the second university in the state to offer a program like this.
A winter session is a compressed academic term that offers students more flexibility and learning opportunities to help them complete their academic requirements.
“Courses offered during winter session provide students with an additional opportunity to accelerate their path to graduation, meet prerequisites for future courses and study an intriguing or unique topic,” said Dr. Amber Paulk, director of summer and winter sessions in the Office of Academic Affairs.
The new session is designed for current UNA students, transient students and adult learners. Additionally, all courses will be offered online.
“By providing additional, flexible course options for students, winter session is another example of UNA’s commitment to student attainment, retention, and degree completion in a timely manner. We want to create additional pathways to empower students to graduate in four years,” said Dr. Ross Alexander, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
The initial winter session term for the 2018 – 2019 academic year will run from Dec. 17, 2018 – Jan. 8, 2019. Instruction days will not include weekends, Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
Interested students will need to register during registration for the spring 2019 classes. Students enrolled in spring classes at UNA will also be able to use their financial award for winter session.
