FLORENCE – University of North Alabama Chief of Police Kevin Gillian was recently named the National Chief of the Year in Las Vegas.
The National Association of Campus Safety Administration gives out the award every year to the top chief in America. Gillian, who was hired in July 2015, credits the work of the UNA officers for his recognition.
“It’s overwhelming to get accolades. It’s due to the good work that our officers here do,” Gillian said.
Gillian, who is no stranger to campus law enforcement, has 23 years of experience. His stops include Samford University, where he served as a lieutenant, and Talladega College and the University of Pittsburgh, where he served as chief of police. Gillilan said the numerous years on college campuses is what drives him to keep the students safe.
“I work as if every student at the University of North Alabama is my own child,” Gillian said. “I also work for an incredible university that supports the department, from the administration all the way down; it has truly been a great experience here.”
This most recent award for Gillian is not the first. Gillilan has been recognized with numerous educational awards, including advanced certifications through the Alabama Association of Chief’s of Police and FBI-LEEDA.
