FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama College of Education and Human Sciences, and Kilby Laboratory School will welcome award-winning author Charles Ghigna for a Young Authors conference and a writing workshop, Nov. 15.
The Young Authors conference will take place at Kilby and will feature Ghigna reading aloud his new bicentennial book, Alabama: My Home, Sweet Home, as part of the Alabama Literacy Association’s statewide Read, Alabama!
Read, Alabama! is a part of the state of Alabama’s Bicentennial celebration.
As part of the State’s bicentennial celebrations, all schoolchildren in Alabama are being encouraged to read Ghigna’s bicentennial book on the same day, Nov. 15. However, Kilby is the only school where Ghigna will appear in-person.
Following the event at Kilby, Ghigna will present a professional development session on writing for local teachers, pre-service teachers and any interested UNA students, from 2-3 p.m., in Wesleyan Hall, as part of the COEHS Professional Development Series. The workshop is free and open to the public.
Ghigna is an award-winning author of more than 100 books and poems. He was recently honored by the Alabama Literacy Association and the Alabama Bicentennial Commission.
