HILLSBORO-The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office reported on Sunday around 4PM that two people drowned, one adult and a teen died while trying to save each other at a location on County Road 222 in Hillsboro.
According to authorities a 17-year-old teen chased his dog into a pond and began to struggle to return to shore at which time his uncle went into the pond to help the youth. The man got the teen back to shore, but began to have difficulty himself returning to the bank of the pond. The 17-year-old returned to help his uncle but soon went under water and both did not resurface. A 15-year-0ld nephew of the man tried to enter the water to help, but was stopped by family members.
According to the Lawrence County Coroner, Scott Norwood the 17-year-old was Gabriel Alonzo and his uncle was Julio Chich Alvarez, 36.
