ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement regarding an ongoing investigation on Charges of Theft 1st against two suspects:
“On July 18, 2016 our department took a theft of property report from Wal-Mart regarding two people stealing $10307.00 in merchandise.
Between May of this year and July of this year Michael Lee Leopard an employee at Wal-Mart and
a customer conspired take assorted items including TV’s, clothing and other merchandise from the store.
Rice and Leopard were in a relationship. Rice would go shopping and then go through Leopard’s register to check out. Leopard acted like he was scanning each item then Rice would swipe a card finally Leopard would run a blank register tape tear it off and give it Rice.
Both Rice and Leopard were arrested yesterday and charged with one count of theft of property 1st degree. Both were booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. “
