DECATUR-Decatur Police were called to Wal-Mart on Spring Avenue SW in Decatur by the Loss Prevention Employee there. Here is how the Decatur Police describe the incident.
SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
“On June 1, 2014 at approximately 7:20 PM, the Decatur Police Department received a call about a theft in progress at Wal-Mart, 2800 Spring Ave SW. When officers arrived, they were met by loss prevention employees who had the woman in custody. The employees explained to the officers that they noticed a man and a woman walk into the store around 7:00 PM and take
several electronic items valued in excess of $500. They watched as the man and the woman exited the store without any attempt to purchase the
merchandise. Employees then followed them outside and were able to detain the woman. They said that the man jumped into a nearby vehicle and sped away before the police could arrive.
Shortly after the police arrived, the man who fled the scene returned to the store and turned himself in to the police. Employees of the business were able to recover all of the stolen property.
The man and woman, later identified as Demetrius Johnson and Kaysha Engle, were transported to the Decatur Police Department where they were each charged with Theft II. They will later be transferred to the Morgan County Jail and held in lieu of a $2,500 bond each.”
