KNOXVILLE, TN– The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking the public to provide input on a study of the potential environmental impacts of a planned repair and refurbishment of the Wilson Dam Bridge near Florence, Alabama.
Details of the review are available in a draft Environmental Assessment at www.tva.com/nepa.
The draft EA includes a preferred option to remove and replace the existing bridge deck and patching of deteriorated surfaces, including rails and sidewalks. Any concrete or paintapplied textural finishes would be matched to the dam’s current appearance. TVA will also include a no action alternative as a baseline.
Construction of the Wilson Dam and bridge began in 1918 and was completed in 1926. In 1933, TVA acquired the dam from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Both the dam and bridge are listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark.
