FLORENCE – The Tennessee Valley Authority invites the public to join a virtual public information event Feb. 11 to March 15, 2021, on proposed transmission system improvements to prepare for growth and increase power reliability in the Florence and Lauderdale County area. TVA proposes to invest $21 million to build the Iron City 161-kilovolt switching station in Lawrence County Tennessee and a 13.3-mile-long, single-circuit transmission line to connect the proposed switching station to Florence Utilities’ existing Florence 161-kilovolt substation.
These power system improvements would provide backup capability to Florence and improve reliability for the Waynesboro, Loretto, and Crockett substations. The line would be built on existing right of way using primarily steel, single-pole and H-frame structures and varying in width from 100 to 175 feet.
