TUSCUMBIA-Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan released a statement concerning the recovery of several dogs and puppies by the Tuscumbia Special Operations Group.  There have been no arrests made in this case to date:
“On the morning of  October 7, 2022 at 9:17am, the Tuscumbia Police Department and Colbert County Animal Control executed a search warrant at 1404 Decatur Street in Tuscumbia.  The search warrant was a culmination of a week long  investigation into abused and neglected dogs being housed or tethered at the residence. The investigative division of the police department had been conducting  surveillance of the residence since obtaining the information. As a result, the Tuscumbia Special Operations Group(TSOG) and investigators executed a search warrant that was obtained by Colbert County Animal Control Director Corey Speegle at the residence. During the execution of the search warrant a crowd began to gather outside of the residence and additional patrol units with Tuscumbia, Sheffield and the Colbert County Sheriff’s office assisted in crowd control.
The municipal ordinances of the City of Tuscumbia related to animals in the city limits restricts the number of  three(3) dogs unless they are a licensed kennel. This residence is zoned for residential and does not qualify for a business license as a kennel. The residence is located in the city limits of Tuscumbia.
Colbert County Animal Control took possession of 22 dogs both adult and puppies. Several of the animals had injuries or were
malnourished and will have to have medical care. This is an ongoing investigation and we believe related to the Lauderdale County case from Thursday October 6th, 2022. No arrest have been made in this case but we feel charges could be forthcoming at the conclusion of the investigation.”
